Most of the information technologies currently used for communicating fall into two categories: channels or platforms. Channels, such as email and instant messaging, enable users to send digital information to anyone. However, the information is only viewable by the few people who are part of the communication exchange. Platforms, such as intranets, corporate websites, and information portals, are different. Their content is created (or at least approved) by a few people, then made widely visible.
The problem is that channels and platforms are not doing a good enough job capturing our knowledge. Social Software for GlassFish provides a collection of applications that tap into a broader range of information sources. For the Early Access 2 release, these applications include the following:
- Authoring: enables contribution of knowledge, insight, and experience through elicit contribution.
- Tagging/Bookmarking: establishes better categorization the content and enables advanced users to quickly locate the information they are seeking.
- Administering: allows you to easily manage the users in the community.
